Toon take all in the sun in Letterkenny

On Saturday, JKC sponsored Ballymoney 1ST XV travelled to Letterkenny knowing a win would take them to within touching distance of securing the league title.
With prop Peter Irvine unavailable, Matthew Blair moved back into the front row with Michael Allan returning in second row.
The game kicked off in glorious sunshine and on 5 minutes, Letterkenny were penalised, giving fullback Clelland the opportunity to open the scoring from the tee which he duly obliged.
With heavyweights Munnis and McFetridge battering the home defence, it wasn’t too long before the Toon were camped in the home 22 and from an attack out wide, the ball was spilled 5m from the line .From the resulting Letterkenny scrum, a huge drive gave hooker Kenny McAneaney the chance to take it against the head and drive over the line leaving No8 Munnis the simplest of tries.Clelland converting, score 10-0.
Next score came from a piece of quick thinking from Clelland. Letterkenny were penalised 10 yards from their line and they retreated awaiting Clelland to take the points , however he tapped the penalty and moved the ball to Matthew Blair who drove over the line to score with 3 defenders hanging onto him ,again Clelland adding the ectras ,score 17-0
Clelland again was instrumental in the third try when a pinpoint kick to the corner landed in touch a few yards from the flag .From the resulting line out ,Ballymoney caught and drove over the line with jordon Munnis adding his second try of the game .
Bonus point secured just before halftime when Mike Armstong put up a kick which he gathered himself and raced into the corner to score try no 4 ,extras added by Clelland ,half time score 27-0 Ballymoney

Andy Young scored at the start of the second half with a line break from 20 yards out.
With thee toon firmly in control, ref Toolan started giving Letterkenny quite a few penalties, one of which resulted in Munnis being sent to the bin for 10 minutes for a “TEAM OFFENCE”
This spurred the home side on and within minutes were on the score sheet with a converted try.
With the heat now playing a factor both sides exchanged scores, Adam Pollock and Chris Watson both scoring and both teams were quite happy to hear the final whistle with Ballymoney coming out 44-21 winners.
Coaches Hanna and Clelland were happy with the win ,especially the first 60 minutes “The first 50-60 minutes was outstanding ,with the game won at 34-0 ,we took our foot off the gas a bit and let our opposition in to score a few softish tries which was a bit disappointing however we are more than happy with another 5 points. With bottom club Ophir coming to the Toon next week for a double header we look forward to securing the league and promotion back to Q2 on our own patch. Hopefully a big home crowd can push us over the line!”
