Very wet day in Dungannon

Ballymoney travelled to Dungannon on Saturday with what was a much changed side, some new and old faces playing in unfamiliar positions. The weather determined the style of play with the wet and blustery conditions making expansive and open rugby an impossibility. Instead the game was fraught with handling errors and made for a tight and physical encounter. Ballymoney started much better than the previous week, pleasing captain Gareth Rankin, who was disappointed with the performance against Hinch. Although the Ballymoney men had the upper hand throughout the game Dungannon managed to cross the line twice in the first half. The first was a quick penalty on the 5 metre line which the men from the toon did not react to quick enough. The second also came from a quick penalty but was surrounded by some confusion over the refs decision. The ref would come in for some stick in the second half as well, where some of the rules of the game had to be explained to him. Although they had sustained pressure the toon men could'nt cross the line and came away with a 17-0 defeat. Notable performances came from Ryan Caldwell and Gary Balmer. Man of the Match was Gary Balmer. The 3s have no game now until the 8th October at Home to Malone.
