3XV lose out to Inishowen

Ballymoney, back in league action after a 4-week break and with a number of players missing, where very slow to start, and quickly found themselves behind in the scoreboard.

Inishowen used their big forwards to punch holes and then slick hands by the backs, causing all sorts of problems for the Ballymoney defence. The half-time score didn't make good reading for Ballymoney; 40 nil to Inishowen.

Some harsh words at halftime from the Captain and Vice Captain seemed to have the desired effect with a much better performance by the whole team. The defence stayed better connected, and the attack was starting to cause Inishowen their own problems. A good platform by the forwards opened up field for Gavin Finney to spot a gap in the back field a wee chip over the top and collected the ball himself to score beside the posts. Unfortunately, Gavin couldn't convert his own try. Inishowen grabbed another try for the themselves the score now 47 - 5.

Ballymoney scored the last try of the game. Good work by the forwards and backs drew the penalty and up stepped Stuart Finney to kick the ball deep into the 22. From the resulting lineout, quick feet by Stuart took Ballymoney with a metre from the line. A quick pick by Captain Neil Campbell and Ballymoney had their second score of day. This time, Gavin Finney converted from out wide. Final score 47 - 12.

Inishowen played well and caused us lots of problems, but as a squad, we know we can play better than that. Up next week is Coleraine Uni, and we hope to bounce back.
