Try-Fest as 1XV win against Malone 2XV in Junior Cup Clash

On Saturday Ballymoney RFC had a break from league duties but Malone 2s were the visitors to Kilraughts Road to compete in the second pool game in the Junior Cup.
On a beautiful, mild Autumn afternoon, The Toon had selected a strong panel as they aimed to qualify for the quarter finals of the competition.
Unfortunately, Malone were unable to field a full team so, conceded the game, but to their credit they travelled and coaches from both sides decided to play the game with Ballymoney giving Malone a few players to make the game go ahead.
Ballymoney won the game comfortably 52-5 with tries from Jack Dowey, Lewis Hawthorne, Matthew Steele, Marty Irwin and a fantastic 4 try-day for skipper Will Scott; Aaron Gervais converted 6 out of 8.
“It was disappointing that fact Malone couldn’t field a full side however we gave them our subs and a few others came out. Big thanks to Matthew Dunlop, John Gilkinson and Matthew Mulligan who came out so as the game could be played. With no game this Saturday it was important we could get some game time in preparation for the Towns Cup game in a fortnight. It was a fairly open game, but we worked hard on our structures and in general it was a constructive run-out,” said skipper Will Scott. “We look forward to a break this week then we prepare for the derby game against Coleraine in the Town’s Cup.
