2s rue slow start against Omagh 3XV

On Saturday, 2XV travelled to a sunny Omagh, and kicked off against a strong Omagh 3XV team. Ballymoney had some changes in the pack with Ryan Millar and Tom Lowry slotting in after some good performances for the 3rds.
The game had only kicked off when Omagh's captain intercepted a loose pass and strolled over the line for a very easy try. Ballymoney responded well, putting Omagh under pressure in their own half. With strong carrying from the forwards, only for Omagh to get a breakaway try after some desperate tackles failed to stop the Omagh backs.
Once again Ballymoney went on the charge, with some pinpoint throwing from the fresh-faced Dave Watson. Andrew Stevenson got the forwards mauling well in the Omagh 22 and after more strong carries from the pack, great ball retention and calm heads shown from young back row, Tom Lowry found himself dancing over the line for Ballymoney's well-deserved 1st try. Jonny Linton converted, giving a half time score of 14-7.
The second half started same as the first half with Ballymoney conceding a try in the first few minutes from deep in Omagh's half.
Ballymoney showed great desire to not let the game get away from them with some great defence, not giving Omagh easy lineouts or scrums. After more strong carries from the forwards and wingers Ballymoney's pressure was too much for Omagh when captain, and birthday boy, Jonny Linton crashed over for a well earned team try. Another runaway try for Omagh's backline ended hopes of a comeback.

After the game, Harry Orr commented “we just didn’t get out of the blocks quick enough. Lessons will be learnt from today and the team will only improve after this tough test. We have some time now to work on our game before welcoming QUB 3s to Kilraughts Road on 18th November.”
