On Saturday Ballymoney 3XV welcomed Letterkenny 2XV at Kilraughts Road for the opening league game of the season, writes the new 3s captain, Jonny Waide.
After sustained pressure in the Letterkenny 22, Neil Campbell powered over the line from close range to open the scoring. The first half continued to be a close fought affair with Letterkenny putting up a stiff defence. The Toon continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with two more breakthroughs. Gavin Finney and Alex Hughes both crossed the line to leave the score 21-0 at Half time.
In the second half with Letterkenny chasing the game Ballymoney were able to add more points to the board. The experienced half-back pairing of Marc Tweed and Jonny Linton provided openings for Ronan Diedricks to get on the scoresheet twice and for Jonny Linton to get one of his own.
The story of the day goes to Ruairi Hawthorne and David Hodges who both scored Hat-tricks to seal a comprehensive win for the Toon.
Manager Chris Campbell commented “It was a great start to the season, with some great rugby played. The boys demonstrated plenty of positives that can be built upon on future weeks”.
Ballymoney 3s continue their league campaign away to Limavady 2s next week.
